Online Armageddon is coming. Are you ready?

Armageddon Is Coming In

Okay, maybe it’s not Armageddon, but this is pretty big news in the online world. And if you own a business and have a website, then it’s big news for you too. Especially if your business website is not yet responsive (mobile friendly).

What we’re talking about is Google Search Optimization, and Google’s latest decision to penalize non-mobile friendly sites in their search results.

Your visibility in Google search may be impacted as of April 21, 2015…

Google has quietly but very clearly announced that the mobile search results are about to completely change. Here are some important points from that announcement:

1. More mobile-friendly websites in search results

Starting April 21, Google will be expanding the use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal.

This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.

Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices…

And corollary, it will be harder to get relevant, high quality search results for sites that are not yet mobile friendly.

2. More relevant app content in search results

As of Feb 26th (2015), Google began to use information from indexed apps as a factor in ranking for signed-in users who have the app installed. As a result, we may now see content from indexed apps more prominently in search.

For those who already have apps, find out how to implement App Indexing, which allows Google to surface this information in search results. Also, have a look at Google’s step-by-step guide on the developer site.

Website Already Responsive? Be sure Google sees it that way!

With these big changes taking place, it’s more important than ever to create a responsive website. Take the time to look at how Google sees your pages to be sure there aren’t any errors you don’t know about. If your website is older than a couple years, chances are it’s not responsive.
